The Wait

I stood there waiting.

It was pouring like the heavens were crying with me.

Wondering where he was.

He always comes here at the same time everyday.

I would know because we’re both very punctual.

So why isn’t he here?

Was something wrong, did he get into an accident.

Everyday he would meet me here and give me a ride to work.

We would chat the entire way.

We’re great friends.

We know everything about one another.

We see each other everyday at the same time at the same place.

So why wasn’t he here?

I was about to call to see if everything was alright, when I heard the whirring of his engine as he turned the corner.

His vehicle was the same as always.

Taller than a truck and shaped like a rectangle.

He stopped right in front of me and used the knob right next to his seat to open the door.

“Sorry I’m late, there was an accident on the road,” he said.

“Well I’m just glad you weren’t in the accident,” I replied closing my umbrella and stepping into his vehicle.

And when the last person stepped into the vehicle he closed the doors and we chatted the entire way to the next bus stop.
